More Flexibility in Pressure Angle Definition

From practice to software – extended pressure angle input in TBK.

Sometimes, innovation is not about adding complexity. It’s about removing limitations.

In the calculation module for single external cylindrical gears within the TBK software from GWJ Technology, the input range for the pressure angle has been extended.

Previously, the minimum selectable pressure angle was 5 degrees. Now, it can be defined down to 1 degree.

At first glance, this may seem like a small adjustment.

In practice, it makes a real difference, especially in tool development for plastic injection molding. When designing tools for injection-molded gears, engineers often need to account for:

  • Process-related deviations
  • Shrinkage effects
  • Geometry corrections during mold design

Having the flexibility to define very small pressure angles allows these practical considerations to be included directly in the calculation model.

This enhancement was implemented in direct response to feedback and requirements from real-world applications.

It is another example of how practical engineering experience is continuously translated into practical calculation software.
