Engineering Tip: Flexible Center Distance Calculation – Even When Reality Differs from Theory.

During re-engineering, the measured center distance in a gearbox housing does not always match the center distance resulting from the calculated profile shift coefficients. That’s why TBK now offers additional options.

With the “Fixed Center Distance” or “Incorrect Center Distance” option, the center distance can be defined independently of the sum of the profile shift coefficients.

This makes it possible to represent the actual installation conditions much more accurately and to specifically influence the resulting backlash.

For helical gears, another option is available: 

The center distance can be calculated directly from a specified sum of the profile shift coefficients. The helix angle can then be varied, for example, until the measured center distance is reached.

These functions make the reconstruction of existing gearboxes significantly easier, more flexible, and more practical.
